Why I started The Kitchen Gardens: Escape the Food System

I started this app because I didn’t just want to cook differently — I wanted to return to something older and steadier. As I began rebuilding our kitchen, I found myself drawn to the practices that once filled ancestral homes: slow fermentations bubbling on the counter, jars of canned food lined up on pantry shelves, broths simmering low and steady, dough rising with time instead of additives. These rhythms sustained families for generations. But I also realized something important. Most of us love the idea of an ancestral kitchen — until we try to live it without structure. Then it feels overwhelming. Too many moving parts. Too much time. Too much pressure to “do it all.” I didn’t want overwhelm. I wanted imitation without exhaustion. So I built this app to bridge that gap. It takes the traditions I value — fermentation, canning, cooking from whole ingredients, planning ahead — and organizes them into clear systems. This isn’t about recreating the 1800s in your kitchen. It’s about restoring the wisdom of ancestral routines in a way that fits modern life — calm, intentional, and manageable. I started this app because I believe we can return to nourishing traditions without burning ourselves out in the process.
