Turn cooking mode on
Step 1
Cut the vanilla beans lengthwise and spoon out the vanilla beans.
6-8 beans Vanilla beans
Step 2
Place the beans and the pods into your jar.
Step 3
Fill the jar with alcohol to completely submerge the beans (you may want to cut them in half).
8 oz Alcohol
Step 4
Place in a dark warm place for at least 3 months, shaking the jar occasionally when you remember to disperse the flavor into the alcohol.
Step 5
With a little patience, you can have a running jar of vanilla extract and never have to buy it again at the store.
Step 6
So I always make two jars: when the first runs out, I add more vanilla beans and refill with alcohol and then use the second jar.
Step 7
And then keep it going like this. As long as the vanilla beans are covered with alcohol they are being preserved.
Step 8
After a few rounds you can replace all the beans.
