Cinnamon Almond Sourdough French Toast

This recipe was made specifically for my Cinnamon Almond Sourdough Sandwich Loaf, and I honestly can't think of a better use for leftover slices. The cinnamon already baked into the bread and the little pockets of almond paste become warm and creamy while the edges turn perfectly crisp. It tastes like something you'd order at a cozy bed-and-breakfast.

Step 4

Dip each slice into the custard mixture for about 20–30 seconds per side. Because sourdough is sturdy, it can soak up plenty of custard without falling apart.

Step 5

Place onto the hot skillet and cook 3–4 minutes per side until golden brown and the center is cooked through.

Step 6

Serve warm with butter, maple syrup, toasted almonds, and fresh berries if desired.

Notes

  • Day-old bread makes the very best French toast.
  • If your loaf is extra fresh, leave the slices out for an hour or lightly toast them first.
  • For an extra-special brunch, top with homemade whipped cream and a sprinkle of toasted almonds.
  • Leftovers freeze beautifully and can be reheated in a toaster or oven for an easy breakfast.
